12 Pay with presence, not with ads
You cannot outspend the big companies on Google. You can be the only [your trade] with your name on 30 kids' uniforms and in the church bulletin 52 weeks a year. Honest warning: this buys TRUST, not customers this month. Judge it by seasons. Most people quit on day 60, right before it starts working.
- The team shirt where your kid already plays. $100 to $500 per season, with your name on the backs of 30 kids.
- The outfield fence banner. $100 to $350 the first year, seen by the same parents 15 to 20 Saturdays in a row. Giant phone number, one service word.
- Show up. Twice a month in person, where you put your name. The logo alone does not sell.
- Measure once a YEAR. Every channel gets its own catch phrase ("mention the bulletin", "Tigers dad"), and whoever answers the phone asks "how did you hear about us?". Kill the worst, double the best.
More options, if you have time and money to spare
Chamber of commerce: $300 to $400 a year. One controlled study: 49% more favorable, 80% more likely to buy from you. But only if you SHOW UP there twice a month. Pay and never show up and you bought a $365 receipt.
BNI type groups: try before you pay. Real cost: $1,750 to $2,700 the first year PLUS one morning a week. It works for residential service; it fails for commercial and new construction. Visit 3 chapters free; if fewer than 8 members serve homeowners in your areas, walk away.
Shirts beat signs: about $400 put a contractor's name on the backs of 30 wrestlers in front of every parent at every meet. His math: a TV ad costs the same and leaves nothing behind.
Elementary and middle school beat high school: "For what you put in against what comes back, it's huge". And nobody hates the local middle school team.
Lend your shop: offer your shop for the league meetings and the draft. Zero dollars, and the whole league walks through your door.
